From May 19–21, members of the PRIORITY consortium gathered in Paris for our very first in-person meeting — a milestone moment for the project! A heartfelt thank you to Gisèle Bonne and her team for warmly welcoming us at their facilities.
Over the course of three dynamic days, researchers from universities across the US and Europe finally had the chance to connect face-to-face. Tuesday was dedicated to an in-depth scientific session, where each team presented their ongoing work across the various aims of the project. Rich discussions sparked new ideas and collaborations, continuing well beyond the scheduled sessions.
Wednesday shifted focus to the patient perspective. Stefan Bassant shared the story behind LMNA Cardiac, the patient foundation he co-founded with Rogier Veltrop, and its mission to build an international network for LMNA patients. A deeply moving personal testimony from a French patient underscored the urgency and impact of our work — a powerful moment for everyone in the room.
Beyond the science, there was time to enjoy some of Paris’ finest cuisine, and a guided tour of the historic Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière offered fascinating insight into the medical heritage of our host city.
As the consortium meeting concluded, many of us stayed on to attend the 5th International Meeting on Laminopathies (May 21–23), organized by fellow PRIORITY member Antoine Muchir.
We look back on these three days as an energizing and fruitful start to our collaboration — and we’re already looking forward to our next in-person gathering in North Carolina this November, hosted by Andrew Landstrom and his team.
Until then — see you online!
Au revoir, Paris! 🗼🥐
